Bryant Andrus has spent the last 17 years mastering the complexities of finance, but his approach goes far beyond the numbers. As the founder and CEO of SBC Investment Management, Bryant is redefining what wealth management means by blending the art of investing with the science of strategy.

In 2008, Bryant stepped into his second job fresh out of college—at the height of the global financial crisis. Starting in an entry-level position, it didn’t take long for his expertise and leadership to shine through. By the time he separated from this firm in 2018, he had ascended to the C-suite as president of the firm, assisted in nearly doubling revenue and spearheading a successful expansion into Canada.

In 2018, Bryant took on a new challenge, joining one of the country’s largest banks. Leading a wealth management team, he transformed the team into the bank’s second-highest producing unit in just nine months. However, he realized that true client-centric service couldn’t be delivered within the constraints of a corporate structure. Motivated to offer a more tailored, holistic approach, Bryant founded SBC Investment Management in 2020—right as the pandemic struck.

Despite the global uncertainty, SBC has thrived, serving clients across North America. Bryant’s mission is simple: to craft financial plans as unique as a fingerprint, guiding clients at every wealth level—from those with a few hundred thousand to ultra-high-net-worth families with assets exceeding $250 million.

With a master’s degree in finance from the prestigious McDonough School of Business at Georgetown University and the highly sought after CFP® designation, Bryant is a leader whose impact extends far beyond managing portfolios. He’s led teams to career-defining heights and helped hundreds of families achieve financial security, one strategic plan at a time. And as SBC continues to grow, Bryant remains focused on what matters most: making each client feel like the only one.

For Bryant Andrus, it’s not about the size of the portfolio; it’s about the value he brings to every financial life he touches. In this Q&A, Bryant shares the philosophies and strategies that have guided his success, his dedication to his team, and what drives him to keep raising the bar for his clients.

Bryant, what led you to start your own company?

I have two main passions: building businesses and building people. At a large bank, I couldn’t serve my clients the way I believed they deserved. There was a need for them to have a true fiduciary—someone who prioritizes their best interests, not just the company’s bottom line. I wanted to create a firm that focuses on being a true steward of our clients’ assets and overall financial well-being. Alongside that, I had a vision to build something that would last beyond me, a legacy I could pass on to my team, giving them the opportunity to grow and provide for themselves long after I step down. That’s what drove me to step out on my own and start my own company.

SBC combines the art of investing and the science of investing. What does that mean in practice?

A lot of academic research suggests that you can’t consistently beat the market. That’s where the science comes in—it’s understanding that while it’s difficult to outperform broad market indices, there are certain factors that can lead to outperformance over time. The science is knowing how and where to strategically allocate assets. But that’s only one side of the equation.

The art of investing is taking that data-driven foundation and weaving it into a strategy that aligns with each client’s unique financial picture. It’s about knowing when to pivot, when to add downside protection, and how to optimize for the client’s specific goals, rather than just chasing returns. Think of it like this: Vanguard and Dimensional focus heavily on the science, while someone like Warren Buffett exemplifies the art. At SBC, we believe it’s not a matter of one approach winning over the other—it’s about blending both to create a multidimensional strategy that ensures every aspect within a client’s financial life, from the investment portfolio to retirement and estate planning, works together harmoniously.

By combining the art and science of investing, we offer a complete, well-rounded experience that goes beyond numbers, creating a portfolio that’s truly tailored to each client’s life and legacy.

This leads us to your other unique strategy—stereophonic wealth management. Can you explain what that means?

Imagine the experience of surround sound in a movie theater. If you only have one or two speakers, you’re missing the depth and richness that comes from a complete sound system. In the same way, managing wealth effectively requires multiple layers working together. Stereophonic wealth management is about integrating the art and science of investing with every aspect of a client’s financial life—investment strategy, financial planning, estate planning, and beyond.

It’s not just about managing individual parts; it’s about harmonizing them to create a unified strategy. When all these components are balanced—like instruments in a symphony—the result is a richer, more complete financial experience. This allows us to not only maximize returns but also to provide true stewardship of our clients’ wealth, ensuring that every piece of their financial life is aligned and working toward their long-term goals.

You’re not only a champion for your clients, but also for your SBC team. Why is this a priority for you?

Because you’re only as strong as your weakest link. As individuals, we all have areas where we fall short, but as a unified team, we can eliminate those weaknesses. My goal at SBC is to build a high-performance team that functions as a cohesive unit, so when we go to market or meet with a client, we go as a team without any gaps in our capabilities.

One person can’t be everything to everyone, but a well-rounded team can, if it has the right mix of skills and expertise. That’s why I invest heavily in our people. We seek out top talent, nurture their growth, and provide opportunities that show them they’re part of something greater than just a paycheck. When our team feels empowered, engaged, and valued, it translates directly into how we serve our clients. And that’s when we become unstoppable.

What do you enjoy most about your work?

I thrive on providing solutions for complex problems and watching people grow—whether it’s our clients, our staff, or even the business itself. It’s all connected. When we help clients overcome challenges and achieve success, it doesn’t just create value for them; it builds up our entire team. That synergy is what drives me—knowing that every time we solve a problem, we’re also building something bigger together.
