Donald Barnett

Veteran, coach, educator and dean are just a few of the many roles that Donald Barnett has held over the course of his career. Growing up in Louisville, he completed a few years of college before joining the U.S. Air Force in 2008, where he was deployed a few times. “The military was one of the best experiences I could have had,” he shares. Thereafter, Donald utilized the GI Bill to go back to the University of Louisville and finish his degree. Having previously played football at the University, Donald started coaching in the local school system. He also started installing window treatments because it was conducive to his school schedule. After moving to Florida in August of 2020 to start a family, with a working knowledge of home décor, he spent time as a private installer serving clients in both commercial and residential sectors before starting his own entrepreneurial venture, First Window Fashions LLC. Their motto is: “Exceptional window treatments, professional installations.” The company serves as a one-stop shop for everything that pertains to home decor, from draperies, shades, and shutters, to pillows, upholstery, and more.

Serving the greater Sarasota area of the Sunshine State, the locally owned business serves a client base that spans from Tampa to Naples. As the organization’s owner and operator, Donald oversees both installations and sales with a team of 13 highly proficient interior designers. “We can create and/or recreate just about anything in our workroom. When customers order from us, they’re able to watch their projects really come to life,” he states. “For us, it’s about how well we execute someone’s vision and being able to deliver consistently is the most rewarding feeling.” With over 40 years of combined experience, Donald and his business partner, Monica, own their workroom outright. Unlike the competition, the thriving company they’ve built is able to satisfy customer needs and accept all new work without having to sacrifice quality or timeliness. “Being a homegrown, local operation embraced by the community that can still measure up against the national competition—I really couldn’t ask for anything more,” he states.
