Dr. Howard E. Johnson, DBA, FCPA, FCA, FCMA, FCBV, CPA, CFA, ASA, CF, C.Dir
Howard Johnson is a renowned expert in selling privately held Canadian businesses. His 25+ years of experience advising business owners and executives on acquisitions, divestitures, financing, and shareholder value; his M&A transactions in diverse sectors; and experience on boards of private and public companies and nonprofits mean his depth of knowledge is rivaled by few. As managing director and head of Canadian M&A at Kroll Corporate Finance Canada, Howard provides end-to-end advice to business owners. Howard has authored numerous books on corporate finance and business valuation, including Selling Your Business: Straightforward Answers to Common Questions, presenting the complex process in accessible, demystifying language (available at www.strat-plan.ca).
Global advisory firm, Kroll, provides solutions for diverse financial issues while never losing sight of personal connection. “When business owners work with me, they get the firepower of a global organization combined with a local touch,” Howard explains. After working within multiple sectors, he’s also able to provide industry-specific insight to his clients and their advisors.
Howard’s other books, published by CPA Canada, include Selling a Private Company; Strategic Acquisitions; Building Shareholder Value; and Business Valuation in Canada. His work earned him Financial Executives International’s distinguished Frank S. Capon Award in 2019. Still, it’s the excitement of helping business owners realize their goals that inspires Howard. “It’s an emotional rollercoaster,” he says. “I play psychologist as much as I play finance guy. Any advisor can say they’ll get the highest price; I look for the best overall deal to make clients happy.”
