Evan Parke, Partner, CKR Law
Evan Parke is no stranger to challenging matters and working outside his comfort zone. He is a renowned patent litigator with an advanced degree in the medicinal sciences, as well as an accomplished white collar and criminal defense attorney whose work has been featured by Dateline NBC and other top news outlets. In recent years, Evan has become an expert deal-maker and is now one of the top attorneys in the emerging field of medicinal psychedelics. He also has an ever-expanding practice in the cannabis and CBD sectors. Individuals and businesses across the nation seek out his advice when confronting sophisticated civil, white collar and regulatory matters. These are a few reasons why Evan was selected as one of the Top 50 Attorneys in the nation.
Evan spent more than a decade handling mission-critical matters at top tier firms (including Boies Schiller Flexner LLP) and in government, where he served as an award-winning assistant chief of an investigations division at a federal agency. He opened his own firm in 2016, and one of his first cases was representing a former prosecutor, Curt Lovelace, in relation to a high-profile murder case. Evan represented Mr. Lovelace pro bono and devoted hundreds of thousands of dollars in attorney time demonstrating his innocence. “A police detective figuratively had locked important records in a dark room and had thrown away the key,” explains Mr. Lovelace. “Through relentless investigative efforts, Evan found the key and unlocked the door. I am forever grateful to Evan for shining a light on the truth and his contribution to proving my innocence.” After the acquittal, Evan went a step further: he brought Mr. Lovelace aboard his firm and supported him in building his law practice again.
Evan has personal ties to the mental health and psychedelics sectors and has served two terms on the D.C. Bar’s Lawyer’s Assistance Committee. “Several decades ago, I was addicted to opiates, cocaine, and alcohol. But an intense LSD experience changed all that. I gained important insights, sought help for my struggles, changed my behavior and obtained three degrees including from Northwestern School of Law. It truly is amazing that now, on the one hand, I have the opportunity to counsel businesses and individuals seeking to capitalize on opportunities in the medicinal psychedelics sector, while, on the other hand, I can use my personal experiences to bring attention to the potential that psychedelics offer as medicines.”
