“Modern finance -- shaping the future of trading services.” This is the mantra of Joel Newman’s latest planned venture, QuantAnalytica. QuantAnalytica's algo-trading bots will help smaller investors get into the trading space, a shift that will disrupt, and eventually transform, the finance sector.
Through sentiment analysis and renaissance technology, the future company will create—and automate—unique strategies to do just that. “Many people in this realm have strategies based purely on mathematics and algorithms,” he explains. “We look at what’s happening in the world and will incorporate social trends into our equations.”
Joel, who began his career in banking, has always been passionate about the stock market. Growing up in Israel, he skipped two grades in school. “When it comes to numbers, I have a photographic memory,” he shares. “I love to learn new things, and I love to be challenged.” He later graduated at the top of his class at Stevens Institute of Technology with a master’s degree in financial engineering. Joel works as a senior consultant for Prudential Financial, where he assures that their trading grids are up and running with the correct data, and spends a period of time serving as a “gatekeeper” for the firm, working between different teams to solve major issues. In his current role as director of investment operations, he works with the modeling team and with trading models, and has restructured financial operations systems to increase efficiency and accuracy—all while developing his venture, QuantAnalytica.
Over the course of his career, he has worked with notable firms, including Citibank and BNY Mellon, in the financial tech space, where his innate ability to communicate complemented his advanced quantitative skill set. Inspired by the writings of Jesse Livermore, whom he describes as “one of the best traders in the world to ever live,” the strategy of Joel’s latest planned entrepreneurial venture reflects some of the legendary trader’s principles. Joel’s favorite quote is, “There is nothing new in Wall Street. There can't be because speculation is as old as the hills. Whatever happens in the stock market today has happened before and will happen again.”
Joel holds a master’s degree in financial engineering from Stevens Institute of Technology and a bachelor’s degree in business administration.
