We spoke with Micah to learn more about why Asylum Technologies needed to be created and how they are differentiating themselves in the IT sector.

Micah, what inspired you to start Asylum Technologies?

My inspiration came from identifying a gap between what I envisioned and what the market needed. Traditional consulting firms often focus on selling IT solutions without truly considering whether those solutions align with a company's goals. In my previous roles, especially at Microsoft, I observed  large organizations frequently approaching technology implementation as a checklist item, rather than a strategic tool to drive growth. This approach often lacked the meaningful conversations necessary to meet the specific needs and goals of the organizations.

Throughout my career, I’ve had the opportunity to work closely with governments and Fortune 500 companies on major projects. I realized these engagements often missed the strategic discussions necessary to understand and address clients' pain points. I enjoyed partnering with clients, thinking strategically alongside them, and forming strong bonds by genuinely understanding their challenges. When we aligned our goals and succeeded together, we both grew.

I wanted my firm to approach consulting differently—one that truly partners with small and medium-sized businesses to provide the tools they need when they need them. My core value is, "Just because we can doesn't mean we should." This means keeping things simple, providing solutions in a language that clients can understand, and focusing on what truly accelerates their business growth. That's why I founded Asylum Technologies, and the journey has been fantastic so far.

How does Asylum Technologies stand out from other consulting firms in the tech industry?

One of our key differentiators is our willingness to say ‘no’ to customers when necessary. Often, clients believe they need the latest technology, but our focus is on helping them make decisions that genuinely solve their problems. Our clients trust us because we aren't just trying to sell them every new piece of tech; we’re dedicated to helping them choose the right solutions that align with their goals.

Another aspect that sets us apart is our flexibility. We collaborate with other consulting firms, partners, and vendors to ensure our clients achieve their objectives. The tech industry often has a lot of "fiefdoms," where consultants try to lock companies into using only their products and standardized solutions. At Asylum Technologies, we pride ourselves on creating a truly heterogeneous solution to maximizes a company's effectiveness.

We also recognize technology and security can be daunting for those without a tech background. We strive to make the process enjoyable, removing the intimidation factor by adding a bit of levity. Our commitment to making technology fun and approachable goes a long way in helping our clients feel more confident and engaged.
