Stacey C. Kalamaras
Stacey C. Kalamaras is founding partner of Kalamaras Law Office, LLC, an intellectual property boutique that provides trademark, copyright, and advertising legal services to small and medium-sized businesses. She also founded Trademarkabilities™, an online trademark academy for lawyers. She is an intellectual property attorney and a recognized Super Lawyer® with a passion for teaching, who has represented some of the most well-known brands in more than 150 countries. A unique breed in the legal field, she is not only a seasoned attorney with over 15 years of experience, but is also a marketing and advertising expert with an MBA in marketing, who spent over a decade in the brand management arena. With her rare insight from dual careers, Stacey doesn’t just appreciate the needs of her clients—she is her clients. “I’ve been in their shoes, on their side of the desk. I’ve walked the walk and talked the talk, and understand the pressures they face in their business,” she explains.
Although she always wanted to be a lawyer, Stacey started her professional career as a marketing and advertising executive in multinational corporations. While employed in a large consumer packaged goods company alongside attorneys who worked for the corporation, she came to realize that her work was no longer fulfilling, and decided to pivot and attend law school full time in her mid-30s. Graduating cum laude from The John Marshall Law School in Chicago, she began her legal career in 2005.
After spending the bulk of her career working in Big Law, assisting companies in the U.S. and abroad as a trademark and advertising attorney, Stacey founded Kalamaras Law Office in 2018 to serve her equal passions for law and teaching. Since its inception, she has educated over 1,800 lawyers on three continents on various trademark topics, including IP law for the corporate lawyer, anti-counterfeiting strategies, how to conduct a trademark search, and how to be an effective practitioner at the USPTO.
In February 2020, Stacey launched Trademarkabilities™, an online trademark academy for lawyers, with a single mission to prepare lawyers to become efficient and effective practitioners before the United States Patent and Trademark Office and to be practice ready to serve their clients. As Stacey explains, “I have a passion for teaching and giving back to the next generation of lawyers. I think it’s very difficult, especially for solo and small firm lawyers, to get robust training programs. All clients deserve world-class representation, and I feel strongly that trademark lawyers (and those who want to practice in that field) are well-trained both practically and strategically. These skills are typically learned outside of law school.”
