When Toni Jackson began her career in finance, she had a degree in accounting and a master’s certificate in project management. She immediately entered the public sector, where she was a certified public account. Her hard work, professionalism, and perseverance set her apart and she eventually moved to the private side of the industry when she was recruited by Anheuser-Busch Companies (now Anheuser-Busch InBev). She started an internal auditor, promoted to senior auditor, and then accepted the position of assistant controller, which moved her to California.
Toni eventually returned to St. Louis and took a job with Boeing, where she held several leadership roles. “As a woman of color in the Midwest, it was a different experience, and at Boeing, the whole tide changed,” Toni said. “My boss from Seattle recognized what I could do for the company, so he gave me special assignments.” Her success resulted in her being selected for the Women in Leadership Fellows Program—Class 50. In 2015, she joined American Water Resources, where she formed the claims and analytics department. Just one year later, she made the bold decision to strike out on her own and founded Fin-Acctg Inc.
For the next few years, Toni’s company thrived, but when her business was negatively impacted by COVID, she pivoted back to the public sector. Toni took on the role of St. Louis County Auditor, which she still maintains. Her accomplishments include creating structure and processes to identify and mitigate risks to ensure the proper use of public funds and to improve efficiency and effectiveness. Her goal is to rebuild her company and her plan is to focus on risk management, financial evaluations, and advisory, and on the niche areas of B-to-B, business taxes, and regulatory compliance. She is currently a subcontractor for an Illinois and California CPA firms and is working towards international taxation and becoming an 8A federal government contractor.
In addition to being an IRS certified enrolled agent, Toni is a certified public accountant and a certified risk management assurance from the Institute of Internal Auditors. She is a member of the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants, Missouri Society of Certified Public Accountants, Missouri Association of County Auditors, Institute of Internal Auditors, and National Association of Tax Professionals.
