For Bobby Smyth, leadership is measured not simply by results, but by what an organization becomes capable of achieving next. As principal partner, former managing partner, and executive consultant at AMEND Consulting, he has spent 15 years helping companies strengthen operations, develop their people, and build systems for growth.

 

That philosophy has also shaped AMEND itself. Bobby architected the firm’s ascent from three employees and $800,000 in revenue to sixty associates while standing up the management and organizational structure to sustain growth. As head of delivery and a member of AMEND’s leadership team, he has helped propel the firm into a 100-person, $25 million organization with a 10-year vision for regional economic impact. Today, AMEND is the leading Cincinnati management consultancy recognized nationally for its operational and enterprise technology expertise.

 

With experience spanning management consulting, corporate finance, operational excellence, business strategy, team leadership, and enterprise technology, Bobby brings a uniquely broad perspective to executive challenges. Yet his value lies in something more fundamental: understanding what a business truly needs and being willing to say it.

Bobby approaches consulting by putting the client’s objectives first. His understanding of operations allows him to break down organizations and map out a strategy to help them at each step along the way. CEOs and executive sponsors engage him as an extension of their leadership team and a central point of direction for complex transformations involving AMEND consultants, internal teams, and outside stakeholders. “I’m passionate about their business strategy and goals, and being helpful in providing the right type of help,” he says.

Two qualities anchor Bobby’s leadership: integrity and trust. As head of delivery, integrity means standing behind commitments and wading into the pressures of performance. He believes strong leaders must deliver today without sacrificing tomorrow while creating environments where people can win and thrive.

 

Trust is earned through listening and action: understanding another’s perspective, welcoming challenges, and following through. He believes leaders must outwardly demonstrate the same generosity and growth mindset they expect from others.

 

Building the Future

 

Bobby’s entrepreneurial experience extends beyond consulting. He was a founding partner of batched.io, a SaaS company that was funded, scaled, and sold to a private-equity-backed platform. He and AMEND have directly operated and scaled private-equity-owned industrial businesses.

 

An Ohio State University industrial and systems engineering graduate, Bobby received the College of Engineering’s Texnikoi Distinguished Outstanding Alumni Award and chairs his department’s External Advisory Board. He also serves EO and multiple nonprofit initiatives alongside his wife, Kiersten.

 

What continues to motivate him is responsibility; to people and businesses. Surrounded by ambitious leaders and growth-minded organizations, Bobby sees leadership as an ongoing opportunity to learn, improve, and build what comes next.
