Dr. Mehta had already built a successful career as an OBGyn in India, with over 14 years of experience. She felt drawn to Canada due to its reputation for inclusivity, diversity, and promising prospects. Upon her arrival, she soon discovered that the path ahead was fraught with difficulties. Despite her strong medical expertise, adapting to the Canadian healthcare system presented numerous obstacles, including recertifying for her medical license. All of this, she navigated while being a single parent to two young daughters.

 

Dr. Mehta's commitment to excellence and her enduring spirit led her to the University of Toronto, one of the world's foremost medical institutions. While pursuing specialization in Ob/Gyn and fellowship in high-risk obstetrics at Mount Sinai Hospital, she was also awarded a fellowship in reproductive sciences, focusing on endocrinology and infertility through University of Toronto at TRIO Fertility.

 

Over her extensive 25-year career, Dr. Mehta has achieved a wide range of accomplishments. These include co-authoring multiple international medical journals and actively promoting philanthropic endeavors. She is delighted to be on the advisory committee and an ambassador for Fertility Friends Foundation, a registered Canadian charity providing financial support for families undergoing fertility treatments.

Dr. Mehta, can you tell us more about your role at Trio Fertility Mississauga?

 

I would be happy to. I am the CEO and medical director of TRIO Fertility Mississauga, where I have the privilege of working alongside a fantastic team of fertility professionals. I'm passionate about leveraging my expertise to support our team and patients on their fertility journeys, while being committed to nurturing our clinic's growth, ensuring exceptional evidence-based personalized care.

 

What motivated you to establish your own clinic?

 

I founded the clinic about two years ago, in 2021. My motivation to start a fertility clinic stemmed from the deep desire to offer hope and support to individuals and couples facing the emotional and physical challenges of infertility and family planning. I wanted to provide an inclusive space where individuals could access comprehensive care, cutting-edge treatments, and the compassion they truly deserve on their unique fertility journeys. Moreover, as a woman, I felt a strong desire to establish my own clinic, as I did with my own hospital in India. This holds special significance for me because even though many fertility clinics are owned by men, only 39% of specialty doctors are female. I would like to see more women represented in ownership roles.

 

What do you believe sets you apart in your field?

 

My unique blend of comprehensive medical expertise spans continents. I take pride in my ability to demonstrate empathy and compassion, ensuring our clinic and team consistently deliver caring, evidence-based healthcare to our patients. We believe in giving our patients the time and attention they deserve, focusing on providing personalized treatment that truly makes a difference in their well-being.

 

What would you consider your most significant professional achievement?

 

Beyond my professional milestones and fulfillments, I cherish being a mother to my two wonderful daughters the most.

 

What do you find most rewarding about your work?

 

I find immense fulfillment in supporting patients as they pursue their reproductive goals, particularly when they succeed after facing prolonged fertility challenges. Knowing that I may positively impact someone's life keeps me excited to go to work each day. Whether it's delivering good news to a couple who has struggled with fertility or assisting someone in planning for their future family, it's all incredibly rewarding.
