For Elsie McKenzie, helping vulnerable children is not simply a professional mission, it is deeply personal. As the founder and CEO of Child of the King Children Services Inc., she has spent more than two decades advocating for young people who need stability, guidance, and hope. Her vision for a residential group home program in Central Florida is rooted in her own childhood experiences and a lifelong commitment to ensuring that every child feels loved, valued, and protected.

 

Born in Haiti and raised there until the age of 12, Elsie spent much of her early life separated from her mother, who had immigrated to the United States to build a better future for her family. Although her mother faithfully sent cassette recordings and messages home, the separation left a lasting impression. Feeling isolated as the youngest of seven children, Elsie developed a profound understanding of what it means for a child to long for connection and belonging. Those experiences, combined with the compassion she witnessed from her family, inspired her calling to serve children facing difficult circumstances.

 

A Vision for Safe and Loving Care

 

Founded in 2003, Child of the King Children Services Inc. is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization dedicated to supporting vulnerable youth and families throughout Central Florida. The organization is currently working to launch its signature residential group home program, designed to provide temporary shelter, stability, and compassionate care for children in crisis.

 

The planned facility will include separate homes for boys and girls, each guided by caring house parents who will provide structure, encouragement, and daily support. Beyond offering a safe place to live, the program will focus on education, counseling, mentorship, family reconciliation, and adoption services when appropriate.

 

More Than a Program

 

What sets Child of the King Children Services apart is its heart-centered approach. Elsie has assembled a network of passionate volunteers, including educators and retired teachers, who share her belief that every child deserves to know they matter. The organization's goal extends beyond helping children; it seeks to strengthen families and provide support systems that help parents navigate challenging circumstances.

 

The program will also address a growing need identified by child welfare professionals who face ongoing shortages of foster homes and temporary placements. By creating a nurturing environment rooted in care, compassion, and accountability, Child of the King Children Services hopes to become a vital resource for the community.

 

Building the Future

 

Today, Elsie is focused on securing a donated commercial multi-family property that will serve as the foundation for the residential group home program. She is actively building partnerships, strengthening donor relationships, and expanding awareness of the organization's mission.
