Katherine Hutt Scott
Katherine Hutt Scott’s journey to entrepreneurship began with two decades of experience as a journalist, including as a foreign correspondent in Latin America and the Caribbean for The Associated Press and as a reporter in Washington, D.C., for the Gannett newspaper chain. When the financial crisis hit, forcing major layoffs in journalism, she chose to leave the profession. For the next 10 years, she enjoyed a successful career doing communications for multilateral institutions: the International Monetary Fund, World Bank, and Inter-American Development Bank. In 2018, she pivoted again, this time to entrepreneurship. Katherine decided to go back to her journalism roots and founded Best Writers and Editors, a company that is true to her values and uses her expansive skills.
“After leaving journalism in 2009, I realized no one knew the skills of journalists, but I knew what they were and I wanted to harness and apply them with this company,” she says. “Journalists know how to report and how to write quickly and accurately; they have integrity, and they want to make the world a better place.” As the founder and principal of the Washington, D.C.-based consultancy, Katherine heads a team of skilled and experienced professionals who offer an array of services: writing and editing reports, blog posts, news articles, website copy, speeches, e-books, and more. The company also excels in coaching groups and individuals to improve their writing. Because of Katherine’s background, Best Writers and Editors specializes in international topics.
