Muhammad is transforming workplace culture through innovative wellness initiatives. In this Q&A, he shares the inspiration behind the Well at Work Program, its unique approach, and how it’s empowering companies to prioritize employee well-being.

Muhammad, can you tell us why you started the Well at Work Program?

The inspiration for the Well at Work Program ties back to my other businesses. Twenty years ago, when I launched Skytek as a coworking space, we saw entrepreneurs thriving in their ventures, but often at the cost of their well-being. That observation stuck with me. Later, with Skailit, we addressed another challenge: operational and staffing needs. By providing businesses with managed remote staff, we saw the potential to help organizations succeed. But as we worked with our teams, a new question arose: “How can we attract and retain the best talent, especially remote workers?”

We realized that creating a workplace where people could truly connect and feel supported would be the key to not only attracting top talent, but also keeping them engaged and happy. That led to the development of our own wellness program. It had an immediate impact—our own team was more committed and fulfilled.

From there, it became a passion project. We thought, “What if we could help more people experience this sense of well-being at work?” That’s how the Well at Work Program was born—a comprehensive corporate wellness solution that organizations can fully manage in-house. It’s designed to make wellness a fundamental part of the workplace and, ultimately, to improve lives and businesses. Sharing this program with the world has been incredibly rewarding.

Why is workplace wellness now becoming a priority for so many companies?

Many organizations are facing challenges in attracting and retaining talented employees. Beyond that, many workplaces are not conducive to employee wellness, leading to a workforce that’s less motivated, less productive, and less committed. Often, the best talent leaves.

Leaders are recognizing that creating a positive workplace culture is essential, and workplace wellness is a critical part of that. It’s gaining attention—institutions like Harvard are starting to discuss it—but it’s not something traditionally taught in business school. Leaders who don’t prioritize wellness aren’t neglectful; they simply haven’t been exposed to the strategies to implement it effectively, and it’s costing them dearly.

From my own experience as a business leader, I’ve seen the direct connection between wellness and success. The idea behind Well at Work started simply: I wanted to attract top talent to deliver excellent service and, ultimately, grow a profitable business. But I realized something important—you don’t have to sacrifice people’s well-being to achieve success. In fact, the two go hand in hand. Workplace wellness isn’t just a ‘nice-to-have’—it’s a must-have for long-term success. Here’s the kicker, not only do our business and staff do better, I’m personally better off. Instead of having to sacrifice my wellness, it’s improved. Win-win-win!

What makes your Well at Work Program unique?

Unlike many wellness programs that are delivered through external vendors, our approach is different. We don’t just deliver a service—we empower organizations to create and sustain their own self-managed wellness programs. This means companies aren’t dependent on outside vendors; instead, they gain the tools, knowledge, and structure to implement and maintain a program tailored to their unique needs.

Our goal is to help organizations build something lasting, something they can manage independently; and who better to personalize something for your company than the very people that run it? When staff are happy and well, they naturally become more engaged, resilient, and productive. This creates a ripple effect—it’s a win for the employees, a win for the company, and ultimately, a win for the business’s overall success.

How does the Well at Work Program work?

The Well at Work Program starts by teaching organizations how to build and implement wellness capabilities. But it doesn’t stop there—we remain alongside them, offering ongoing evaluation, insights, and support as an objective third party. Our role is to make life better, not harder. We identify areas where a company is excelling and highlight gaps to focus on, helping them move from where they are to where they want to be. The program also holds teams accountable, ensuring wellness is not just a feel-good initiative but a meaningful transformation

.

Leaders often praise the program for providing measurable insights into their workplace wellness culture. Our Well at Work Wellness rating adds credibility, recognizing companies that prioritize employee wellness—a distinction they can promote to attract and retain top talent. Ultimately, we help organizations not only create outstanding wellness programs, but also showcase their commitment to stand out in competitive markets.
