Seamus Nally
When Seamus Nally discovered TurboTenant in 2017, he immediately recognized something special. As a landlord himself, managing rentals in Upstate New York and Colorado, he had felt the pain points of self-managing without reliable tools.
Founded in 2015 by Sarnen Steinbarth, TurboTenant was built to serve the everyday landlord: the person managing one to fifty units, juggling it all. Seamus saw a reflection of his own values in the company’s vision, and he knew he wanted to be a part of it.
With a background in product development and a passion for solving meaningful problems, Seamus brought his expertise to TurboTenant and, by 2021, stepped into the role of CEO. Since then, he’s worked side-by-side with the team to grow the platform while staying grounded in its original purpose: to make property management simpler, less time-consuming, and more successful for independent landlords.
Headquartered in Fort Collins, Colorado, TurboTenant is an all-in-one platform that allows landlords to market rentals, screen tenants, sign leases, collect rent, and more—streamlining every step of the process into one intuitive space. It's built to reduce the stress of property management while giving landlords the tools to run their businesses more professionally and efficiently. From just 10 users on launch day, it has grown into a nationwide platform with over 800,000 landlords and more than 500 joining daily.
June 2025 marked a major milestone: TurboTenant’s 10-year anniversary. That same month, the company announced an exclusive partnership with Rent Butter, a next-generation screening tool that provides near-instant credit and background checks—another step in simplifying the rental journey.
We caught up with Seamus to learn more about what drew him to TurboTenant, how the platform is making life easier for landlords, and what’s on the horizon.
Seamus, what drew you to TurboTenant, and what do you see as your primary mission as the CEO leading the company?
I had my own software development company at the time, and our office happened to be in the same building as TurboTenant. I started talking to Sarnen, the founder, and I was immediately drawn to what he was building—his story mirrored my own experience as a landlord, dealing with the same challenges and piecemeal processes that TurboTenant was created to solve. In 2017, we decided to team up. I knew this was a big idea with a huge market of people worth building for—and I wanted to use it myself. I brought my entire team on board, doubling the size of TurboTenant, and we were all excited to grow together.
In 2021, when Sarnen stepped down as CEO, I stepped into the role. It was an opportunity to reimagine the company and take a fresh look at the full landlord journey—thinking deeply about how our product could evolve to meet the needs of landlords. Staying true to TurboTenant’s founding mission, we’ve embraced technology to make it easier to put rental management on autopilot. As CEO, I’m focused on continuing to drive that mission forward.
What makes TurboTenant unique, and how is it bringing value to landlords?
From the start, we’ve aimed to eliminate the friction for landlords who want to manage their properties on their own, but feel unsure where to begin. Two of the most common pain points are: “How do I find the right tenant?” and “Where do I get a lease agreement that protects me and my investment?” We provide a simple path to solve for both—starting with a free offering. Landlords can sign up, post a property, and we market it across major listing sites. No contracts. No credit card. Our landlords average 28 leads per listing. They can click one button to invite an applicant, and the screening process starts automatically. The renter pays the application fee, which covers the cost of the screening. There’s no downside to trying TurboTenant—if it delivers value, great; if not, there’s no loss.
One of the biggest differentiators is how we’ve streamlined lease creation and legal paperwork. We modeled the process after TurboTax—landlords answer simple yes/no questions like “Do you allow pets?” and we layer in relevant local laws. At the end, they get a clear, legally compliant lease tailored to their state or city that’s easy for both parties to understand and sign. We’ve also integrated rent payments, maintenance tracking, accounting, and more into the platform.
Another area we’re proud of is tenant communication. That relationship can often feel tense, but we’ve built features that make it easier and more proactive. For example, when a tenant pays rent, they’re prompted with, “How are things going at the property? Any maintenance issues?” They can submit a request on the spot, and it goes straight to the landlord. From there, the landlord can coordinate repairs, send updates, and resolve issues faster—creating a more respectful and responsive relationship. When tenants feel heard, they treat the property like a home—not just a rental.
What drives you?
First, it’s the people we serve—the landlords. They’re not giant real estate moguls; they’re everyday people chasing their version of the American dream. Second, the opportunity to lead the company that’s becoming the go-to name in this space is something I don’t take for granted. And third, my incredible team. We have over 100 team members who show up every day ready to serve our users with energy and purpose. I’m incredibly grateful to work alongside them, and so proud of what we’ve created at TurboTenant.
