For nearly 15 years, Debbie McWhirt lived and breathed education from every angle. She taught in classrooms, led as a middle school principal, directed special education programs, and even mentored aspiring teachers at the university level. In 2025, Debbie transformed that insight into action by founding Where You Lead Learning, LLC, in Tulsa, Oklahoma. As founder and CEO, she has reimagined what student support can look like, blending research, data, and heart into programs that deliver measurable impact. The company is more than a tutoring service—it’s a hub for personalized learning and a beacon for families seeking more than the “one-size-fits-all” approach.

 

Debbie’s proudest innovation is the Comprehension Growth Method, a breakthrough framework that has helped students achieve a full grade level of reading comprehension growth in just 12 weeks. For many families, this method has been the turning point that unlocked confidence and success in their child’s academic journey.

 

Cracking the Code with Data

 

The secret behind Debbie’s method is both simple and powerful. Instead of overwhelming students with every state standard, she isolates the ones that matter most. By drilling into assessment data, she can spot exactly where a child’s foundation cracked—even if it was years ago. “Sometimes I can tell the week a student missed a lesson,” Debbie explains. “Maybe they were out sick when literary elements were taught in second grade, and they’ve been stuck ever since. My job is to go back, repair that missing piece, and then build everything stronger from there.” This targeted, mastery-based approach flips the script on traditional instruction. Students don’t just keep up—they leap forward.

 

Expanding Opportunity

 

Debbie didn’t stop at tutoring. Recognizing that access is often the biggest barrier, she expanded Where You Lead Learning into a private microschool—funded through Oklahoma state tax credits. Families can now access individualized education without the weight of financial stress. The microschool combines personalized learning plans, close collaboration with parents, and an environment where no child slips through the cracks.

Debbie holds a bachelor’s degree in elementary education and a master’s in instructional design, along with certifications in both elementary and special education. But more than her degrees or titles, it’s her relentless commitment to reimagining education that defines her.
