Dr. James Siddorn
In the complex world of mineral exploration and mining, few professionals combine technical mastery, client collaboration, and strategic leadership quite like Dr. James Siddorn. As executive chair (North America) and president (Canada) of SRK Consulting, he bridges the gap between scientific precision and organizational strategy—guiding field teams and boardroom initiatives with equal clarity.
With over two decades of global experience in structural analysis and 3D geological modeling, Dr. Siddorn is recognized as a leading expert in the evaluation of gold and base metal deposits. His expertise spans diverse geological environments across continents, including recent work in Chile, Saudi Arabia, Portugal, and Turkey. “There are only a handful of people worldwide who specialize in what I do,” he notes. “But no matter where I go, I always see myself as part of the client’s team, not just a consultant.”
In his technical role, Dr. Siddorn leads a team of specialists at SRK who focus on using structural geology to uncover new deposits and ensure operational safety. He helps clients understand the controls behind mineral distribution—particularly how geological structures like faults influence where gold or copper might be found. He also applies predictive 3D modeling to assess and prevent structural risks in deep underground mines, minimizing safety threats and financial losses. He explains, “Faults can control where the metals are, but also where hazards lie. In a deep mine, one bad interpretation can risk worker safety or cost millions in lost infrastructure.”
Beyond the rocks and models, Dr. Siddorn thrives on building relationships. His approach is rooted in mutual respect—tapping into the local knowledge of technicians and geologists on-site while offering strategic insights drawn from decades of experience. “We become friends the moment we start working together,” he shares. “It’s about shared knowledge, not top-down consulting.”
Dr. Siddorn’s leadership within SRK reflects this same collaborative spirit. In Canada, he provides oversight on business operations and performance, while across North America, he chairs the board and the Practice Leaders Group, championing innovation and internal empowerment. His mission? To uphold SRK’s values by supporting strategic development while protecting the autonomy of technical teams. “Our people need to be free from bureaucracy so they can focus on what they do best—solving problems for our clients.”
From academic accolades—including a PhD and the CIM Past Presidents Medal—to recent interviews in Coring Magazine and Global Business Reports, Dr. Siddorn has earned respect across professional and scientific communities. But he remains grounded. “My dad left school at 13. I may have a PhD, but I’m working-class at heart,” he says.
As a geologist, global leader, and mentor, Dr. James Siddorn embodies a rare blend of technical depth and human connection—proving the richest discoveries often lie not just beneath the surface of the Earth, but within the relationships we build along the way.
