A RATING

Geoffrey Costa
Geoffrey Costa’s story is one of contrast; discipline and unraveling, achievement and emptiness, collapse and reinvention. Raised on Long Island, he built his identity early around performance, eventually earning admission to the United States Military Academy at West Point. From there, his path moved with precision: a decade as a U.S. Army officer, including two combat deployments in Iraq, followed by a steady rise through the building supply industry into executive leadership.
In the military, Geoffrey learned how to lead when the stakes were highest—how to make decisions in uncertainty and care for people under pressure. Those lessons carried into civilian life, where he spent more than 15 years progressing through roles as regional manager, district manager, and vice president. By every external measure, he had achieved success. But success, he would come to understand, can mask deeper truths.
Behind the recognition was a growing disconnect. Geoffrey had built his life around performance; meeting expectations, achieving outcomes, and maintaining control, while losing sight of himself in the process. The same drive that fueled his rise also prevented him from confronting what was beneath the surface. That tension eventually caught up with him. Years of overcommitment and constant motion led to burnout and a personal collapse few could have anticipated. What looked like momentum was, in reality, avoidance. When everything stopped, Geoffrey was forced to face the reality he had long avoided. What followed was not another attempt to achieve more—it was a decision to let go.
Through introspection and deliberate change, he began redefining leadership as something rooted in alignment rather than performance. That shift became the foundation for his next chapter. Today, as founder and CEO of Lead Forward Strategies, Geoffrey works with business owners, particularly in construction, to help them scale sustainably while reconnecting with purpose. His work blends strategy with personal development, guiding leaders to move from reactive operators to intentional decision-makers. Through coaching, speaking, and his book, Forged in Armor, Freed by Love, Geoffrey has built a platform that speaks to those who appear successful outwardly but feel disconnected internally.
The Calling Behind Lead Forward Strategies
Lead Forward Strategies was born from a deeper realization about leadership and human potential. Geoffrey had long been a trusted voice for others navigating challenges, but over time, he recognized an opportunity to help on a more meaningful level; moving beyond advice to real transformation.
Founded in 2024 and based in Medford, New York, the firm is a certified service-disabled veteran-owned consulting and coaching company focused on helping construction businesses and small-to-mid-sized organizations scale with clarity. Geoffrey’s work centers on developing repeatable systems, strengthening leadership, and guiding owners into a true CEO mindset. Clients are challenged to shift from working in their business to working on it, building structures that support long-term growth rather than short-term survival. At the same time, the work goes deeper than operations. Geoffrey integrates personal development into every engagement, helping leaders reconnect with their purpose and align their decisions accordingly. The result is a model that balances precision with meaning—where growth is not only measured in numbers, but in clarity, direction, and sustainability.
The Rise: Perfection, Performance, and the Mask
Geoffrey’s early life was shaped by adversity, which led him to channel his energy into achievement. Perfection became both a shield and a standard. He excelled academically and athletically, earning recognition as an All-American and later being inducted into his high school Hall of Fame. That same drive carried into West Point and his military career, where discipline and performance were foundational. As a Division I Army Lacrosse Team Captain and decorated officer, he built a reputation for leadership and reliability, earning multiple commendations for his service, including recognition tied to his deployments during Operation Iraqi Freedom. The pattern continued in corporate America. Geoffrey rose quickly, earning President’s Club awards and leading high-performing teams while being selected for advanced leadership programs. Each milestone reinforced the image of success.
Yet the internal experience told a different story. The expectation to remain strong left little room for vulnerability. The higher he climbed, the more he felt compelled to maintain the façade. Leadership became synonymous with control, and control left no space for honesty.
The Fall: Burnout, Collapse, and Rock Bottom
The pace Geoffrey maintained was not sustainable. Over time, the constant pressure to perform created a cycle of overcommitment and emotional exhaustion. Productivity became a distraction from deeper issues, and recognition masked the strain. Eventually, the weight of that lifestyle led to a breaking point. Geoffrey’s collapse culminated in a 72-hour stay in a psychiatric facility. It was a moment that marked the end of one way of living and the beginning of another. What made it more profound was how invisible it had been. Years of maintaining control had ensured that even those closest to him did not see the warning signs. The experience forced a complete reevaluation, not just of his career, but of his identity.
The Turning Point: Surrender and Self-Reconnection
Geoffrey’s transformation began with surrender. Rather than rebuilding the same patterns, he chose to release them, letting go of identity, ego, and the need for external validation. In doing so, he began to reconnect with who he was beyond achievement. A central principle of this shift is alignment, ensuring that words, actions, and values are consistent. Leadership, in this sense, is not about position, but about integrity and presence. This philosophy now shapes both his life and his work.
Today, his work extends beyond consulting. Through coaching, speaking engagements, and involvement in veteran-focused initiatives, including equine therapy, Geoffrey continues to support individuals navigating their own transitions. His mission is grounded in service: helping others move forward with clarity, purpose, and a renewed understanding of what leadership truly means.
