Building What Works: Greg Mester’s Practical Path to Growth

Greg Mester has spent a career operating at the intersection of engineering precision, business strategy, and human potential. As President, Coach, Mentor, and Founder of Idea Communication Networks, Inc., he helps individuals and organizations expand their impact, revenue, and results—often two to three times over—while reclaiming something many leaders lose along the way: time and enjoyment in the work itself. His philosophy is grounded, results-driven, and refreshingly human.

From Defense Engineering to Business Growth

Greg’s professional foundation was forged in high-stakes environments. Early in his career, he worked as an engineer on the U.S. Navy’s F/A-18E/F jet fighter program, contributing to its first flight and $4 billion low-rate initial production specifications and developed logistical tracking technology that he presented to the Under Secretary of the U.S. Navy.  He later managed programs for the Army’s Bradley Fighting Vehicle. These experiences shaped his ability to deliver clarity, accountability, and results under real-world constraints—skills that now anchor his coaching work.

Agile With a Twist

Unlike many coaches who treat Agile as rigid doctrine, Greg takes a pragmatic approach he calls “Agile With a Twist.” He uses frameworks when they serve the client and discards what does not. This flexibility is especially critical for small and medium-sized businesses, which rarely need—or can afford—large-scale Agile implementations. Greg is often brought in after cookie-cutter approaches fail. He keeps what works, redesigns what doesn’t, and aligns strategy with actual goals, budgets, and realities. By focusing on small, visible progress every one to two weeks, he helps clients build momentum, secure stakeholder confidence, and tie delivery directly to value.

Author, Educator, and Thought Leader

Greg is a co-author of The Change: Insights into Self-Empowerment, Volume 20, with forewords by Les Brown, Jim Lutes, and Jim Britt. His other book, Agile Profit Pathways, translates Agile principles into actionable business growth strategies, and his upcoming release, Getting to the Next Level, continues that mission. His 5amMesterScrum platform has earned over four million YouTube views and recognition as Top 10 Leading Speakers to Follow in 2025, as well as a Top Agile Coaching Podcast ranking.

AI, Innovation, and the Next Chapter

Recognizing that AI is often oversold as a shortcut, Greg now advises SMBs on practical AI adoption. He helps leaders define what they truly need—whether efficiency, reach, or customer experience—and implement only tools that create real value. His work removes daily friction through smart automation while keeping the focus on innovation and entrepreneurship. Looking ahead, Greg is launching the Philly Business Forum in 2026, a mastermind community and tech exchange designed specifically for small business owners ready to grow.

Founded in 1999, Idea Communication Networks continues to evolve, but its purpose remains constant: building systems that work for people, not the other way around.
