Jimmy Malhan

Jimmy Malhan has spent nearly 2 decades solving complex technology challenges at some of the world’s most recognized organizations. With 17 years of experience working from SMBs to enterprise companies like Abbvie, Healthjoy, and now his own ventures, Pretense, SystemDesignLaws, he has built a reputation as a systems leader who understands both the promise and the risks of artificial intelligence and cybersecurity. As founder and CEO of the Los Angeles-based company, Jimmy is addressing one of the most pressing concerns facing businesses today: how to control AI without exposing sensitive data.

While many organizations have used tools like Claude, Cursor, ChatGPT and GitHub Copilot, concerns about privacy, security, and regulatory compliance continue to grow. Jimmy recognized this challenge firsthand while working in enterprise environments, where employees often looked for more flexible AI solutions than the heavily restricted internal systems available to them in every company. Rather than attempting to prevent AI adoption, he focused on a different question: How can companies protect their data while still benefiting from AI-driven productivity?

That question became the foundation for Pretense, a platform designed to protect proprietary code and sensitive information before it reaches external AI systems. By shielding critical data and restoring it only when needed, the platform allows teams to use AI tools without changing their workflows. At the same time, it helps organizations address compliance requirements associated with SOC 2, HIPAA, GDPR, and PCI-DSS, FedRAMP, CMMC and CERT-In.

Solving a Growing AI Security Problem

Pretense is created to address the reality that employees across engineering, sales, marketing, and other departments increasingly rely on AI to work more efficiently. Jimmy elegantly believes organizations can enhance the trend to secure customer and employee data.

The platform can operate wherever a company’s code base exists, whether on individual laptops, servers, websites, or cloud environments. Designed for rapid deployment, onboarding takes only seconds, allowing organizations to implement protection without disrupting productivity.

A Different Approach to Data Protection

What sets Pretense apart is its commitment to keeping secure data with the customer with compliance. The SAAS platform keeps the proprietary information with clients and operates on the usage of security tokens to charge customers.

At its core, the company utilizes a mutation-based approach aka security tokens for data protection with multiple levels. It has seemed to be highly efficient in comparing traditional industry standards using redaction or obfuscation methods; mutation preserves speed, accuracy, and usability while safeguarding sensitive information. Jimmy has adapted this technology specifically for AI security applications, with related patents currently pending.

Building Systems That Scale

Jimmy’s accomplishments extend far beyond startup leadership. Throughout his career, he has built 8 AI-powered healthcare assistants, reduced issue-resolution times from 4 hours to 7 minutes and generated nearly $8 million in working capital savings. Today, he leads teams developing secure AI solutions while continuing to advance his vision of protecting data wherever technology is used.

For Jimmy, the future of AI is about obsessively choosing between innovation, speed and security at the same time while maintaining compliance world-wide.
