Katie Kristofic

Katie Kristofic’s path to founding The Carefullist was not born from theory, but from lived experience shaped by both personal challenge and professional expertise. As a former family caregiver to her mother, who lived with Alzheimer’s for more than a decade, Katie came face to face with the emotional, logistical, and informational gaps that define the caregiving journey; insights that extend to caregivers of those with Parkinson’s, ALS, MS, chronic illness, and medically complex or special needs children. At the same time, her career in marketing for pharmaceutical and biotech companies had equipped her with the ability to navigate complex information landscapes. When those two worlds collided, she recognized an opportunity to create something meaningful, something that could ease the burden for millions of others walking a similar path.

Living two hours away from her parents, Katie approached caregiving with intention, treating it almost like a remote role. She quickly discovered what many caregivers experience: an overwhelming flood of information that rarely answered the questions that mattered most. The frustration wasn’t a lack of resources, but a lack of clarity and trust. She envisioned a solution that would function like a “Consumer Reports” for caregiving, an organized, credible, and centralized hub where people could find what they need without spending countless hours searching.

That vision became The Carefullist, an online platform designed to reduce the time caregivers spend researching so they can focus on what truly matters; caring for themselves and spending meaningful time with their loved ones. Family caregivers often dedicate more than 13 hours each month to research alone, and Katie set out to give that time back. The platform curates expert blogs, practical tools, and structured resources, offering both free educational content and paid access to a comprehensive suite of caregiving materials.

What distinguishes The Carefullist is its thoughtful blend of expert insight and real-world experience. Contributions from professionals, such as elder law attorneys and neurologists, provide clarity on critical topics like power of attorney and dementia progression. At the same time, Katie incorporates crowdsourced solutions from individuals who have navigated caregiving themselves, ensuring the platform reflects what is genuinely helpful in practice. Tools like checklists and guided starting points transform overwhelming situations into manageable steps.

A particularly impactful initiative within the platform is “Tips for Recognizing Dementia,” which highlights early warning signs that are often overlooked. Subtle changes, such as alterations in gait, difficulty performing familiar tasks, or struggles in unfamiliar environments, can signal the onset of cognitive decline long before a formal diagnosis. By bringing awareness to these indicators, Katie empowers families to act sooner and with greater confidence.

Katie’s journey reflects both resilience and purpose. From leading global crisis communications during the pandemic to taking the leap into entrepreneurship, she has consistently demonstrated a commitment to helping others navigate complex, high-stakes situations. With The Carefullist, she has transformed personal hardship into a resource that offers clarity, compassion, and practical support to millions of caregivers across the country.
