Rick Bennett
Rick Bennett, president of Rick Bennett Advertising & PR, has revolutionized guerrilla warfare marketing for over four decades. A renowned mathematician and inventor, this entrepreneur has evolved from using technology to shake up the political world to high-tech guerrilla warfare in Silicon Valley (see examples at www.rickbennett.com) to writing one-of-a-kind science fiction.
Rick’s invention, a voice-stress analyzer, made headlines in every major Sunday newspaper on November 9, 1976, for his analysis of the Ford/Carter presidential debates. He appeared on NBC’s Today and Tomorrow with Tom Snyder, ABC’s Good Morning America, The McNeil-Lehrer Report, and the Mike Douglas Show. Frank Herbert, author of Dune, backed Rick's congressional run in 1978 from Washington State. Herbert got Rick 47% of the vote.
In 1978 and licking his wounds from a close race for congress, Rick moved to Boston where he became the manager of special projects for Data General. His initial assignment was to secure the passage of tax-limitation in Massachusetts. To achieve this, Rick enlisted Tony Schwartz, the advertising legend behind the infamous Daisy ad that dismantled Barry Goldwater’s presidential campaign. Schwartz taught Rick the art of guerrilla warfare, and tax-limitation passed in Massachusetts with 60% of the vote.
In 1984, Rick launched a one-man Silicon Valley guerrilla warfare ad agency. His ads took Larry Ellison’s Oracle from $15 million in sales to over $1 billion in under six years. He also created Marc Benioff’s Salesforce.com pre-IPO advertising. The day of Salesforce’s IPO, Benioff wrote Bennett saying, “We couldn’t have done this without you.”
Rick’s guerrilla warfare tactics follow what he calls “Ellison’s Law,” which states you are not allowed to say anything that a competitor could say. Following this admonition, he’s written a science fiction novel quite different from anything else ever published. Unlike all other alien invasion stories, the invading aliens get whacked before they ever fire the first shot.
Since 2000, he has published two novels: Destroying Angel and Daddy’s Little Felons. Four of his award-winning short stories are featured in the anthology Cresting the Sun. His upcoming novel, The Last Will & Testament of Harley and His Dog, set for release in August 2024, adheres to Ellison’s Law (there’s nothing else like it) and is published under Bennett’s Destroying Angel imprint.
Andrew Blum, a former VC and investment banker, says of this new novel, “I wouldn’t have believed a talking dog with her own television show could completely tank the economy.” Rick Bennett continues to break new ground. Is his newest book the most unusual science fiction ever penned? You decide. Pre-order your copy at https://www.amazon.com/dp/B0D8GQ7Q9L.
